Located in the state of Vermont, is the 1,400 acre Shelburne Farms. It’s a National Historic landmark. Besides functioning like a hotel, it also has a well stocked library. The Gilded Age has a setting straight from one of Edith Wharton’s novel. It even has a 100 room mansion without TV or radio.
In the Shelburne Farms, it’s about preserving the ancient culture. It’s not about inducting the new. The Farms offer you about 8 miles of walking trails. They also offer you a guided tour of the property as well. There is also a farm store as well. It offers memorabilia at a discounted price.
The surrounding panorama is just awesome. It’s very jaw dropping. The neighboring Lake Champlain is an interesting lake as well. It is supposed to be home to the mysterious water monster known as Champ. The Champ is an American version of the Loch Ness monster. However, I seriously doubt the credibility of these stories.
Back in the day, a young couple Dr. William Seward Webb and Lila Vanderbilt Webb did something downright bohemian in this part of Vermont. Dr.Webb was a physician, who later on became a railroad developer. The then extremely wealthy Webbs bought about 30 farms in the area and gave birth to the Shelburne Farms. If you care for great vistas and a quality time with your loved ones, you might want to consider this place to be your next vacation.
